Enjoy

Hello!

I’ve been playing with watercolors and attempted to color with no lines.

SUPPLIES Stamps: Divine (40-372) Dies: Hooray (51-038) Color: Antique Linen, Picked Raspberry, Worn Lipstick, Spun Sugar, Festive Berries, Mowed Lawn Distress Ink (Ranger) Other: Foam (Michaels); Colored Cardstock (Michaels); Bristol Paper (Strathmore)

SUPPLIES Stamps: Divine (40-372) Dies: Hooray (51-038) Color: Picked Raspberry, Worn Lipstick, Tattered Rose, Spun Sugar, Festive Berries, Mowed Lawn Distress Ink (Ranger) Other: Foam (Michaels); Colored Cardstock (Michaels); Bristol Paper (Strathmore); Misti Stamp Positioner, Craft Worksheet (Ranger)

I made tried to make it easy for myself.  I used the Misti Stamp Positioner to ink Divine (40-372) on my Bristol card panel.  I stamped the flowers first using Tattered Rose Distress Ink.  I then stamped the stems using Mowed Lawn Distress Ink.

I directly pressed various pink hues of Distress Ink on my craft sheet and lightly sprayed each color with water to create my color palette.  These hues were used to color the flowers.  I first started with the darkest colors and blended the lights into the darks.

Once the panel was dry, I die cut “Enjoy” from the set Hooray (51-038).  I die cut “Enjoy” 2 more times and adhered it to the first cut.  Colored card stocking matching the colors of the flower were added to the panel.  I added a slightly smaller rectangle to the back of the card panel and adhered it to the base.  Finally, I adhered the die cut back into the panel to complete the card.

Time to Party

Hi!

Hope you all had a GREAT weekend.

I have a birthday card to share with you highlighting Penny Black’s Man’s Best Friend (30-120) clear set.  I love this set!  It has such cute images of dogs.  Perhaps I’m just so fond of them since we have a puppy in the house.

My husband’s birthday was last month and a dog image on his card was fitting.

SUPPLIES Stamps: All Penny Black Fashion Tweet (30-223); Man’s Best Friend (30-120); Party Time (30-049); Dots in Space (40-144) Dies: All Penny Black Flower Portrait (51-114); Chat Bubbles (51-003) Color: Prismacolor Pencils; Black Licorice Hybrid (MFT); Black Onyx Versafine; Smokey Gray Versafine (Tsukineko); Tumbled Glass, Shaded Lilac Distress Ink (Ranger) Other: Versamark (Tsukineko), Clear EP (Ranger)

I created this card fairlly “quickly”.  To create the background, I stamped and clear embossed Dots in Space (40-144) on my card panel.  I then die cut Flower Portrait (51-114) at the top center of the panel.  I  cut Flower Portrait two more times and adhered just the frame one on top of the other.  The top layer was from a previous card here.

On a separate piece of cardstock, I stamped, colored and fussy cut my dog image.  This cute critter was colored with Prismacolor Pencils.  On the card base, I strategically centered and stamped the cityscape from Fashion Tweet (30-233) where my panel window would be mounted.  The panel was adhered on my card base with dimensional foam.  I then added the frame onto the panel.  I slid the dog image behind the panel and adhered with more dimensional foam.  Finally I added a sentiment from Party Time (30-049) on one of the Chat Bubbles (51-003) die set.

Card Trio

Hello!

I wanted to share a set of cards that I created using negative die cuts.  Last month, I had made this card.  One of the dies that I used for the card was Flower Portrait (51-114).  The part of the die that I used was the flowers (which were colored using the watercolor smooshing technique found here).  What was left was the negative die of the flowers as well as the frame.  I really liked the colors of the die cuts and I decided to save them for a different purpose.  Not only did I save the negative cut but flower centers as well!

untitled-3176-2

I simply cut a small card panel out of arcrylic paper (I love the texture of it) and mounted the negative die cut on top along with the flower centers.  I then added the panel to a card base and then added a sentiment.  Each sentiment was stamped with Black Onyx Versafine ink and then embossed.

I used the cards for Mother’s day which I sent to my Mother-in-Law and Sister-in-Law who just had a baby.

Here are closeups of each card.

I really love this versatile die and I used the frames for another card which I will share at another time.  Just a simple way to use all the cuts from your die.

Until next time!

Rejoice!

Greetings!

I hope holiday preparations are going your way.

This is my latest card I would like to share.

I wanted to try a technique that I saw on my fellow DT member, Alexandra – watercolor on vellum paper.  You can view her creation here.  I loved the look that I wanted to use it in my next card.

I thought the perfect image to use with this technique was We Three Kings (40-347).   On a piece of vellum paper, I heat embossed the image with gold embossing powder.  Using my Koi Watercolor Field Sketch Set as well as my Pearlescent Paint Set, I carefully painted the image with regal colors.

Once dry, I worked on the rest of the card.  I trimmed the vellum and adhered it to a matching size kraft card panel.  The one thing about this technique was the vellum warped.  I tried to flatten the vellum as much as I could and used clear tape on all sides of the paper.  To be honest, it still looked warped, but I really liked the way it turned out, that I went forward with my card creation.

I wanted my image to stand out and used matched green cardstock to frame the image.  I also added strips of gold foil paper to act as a border between the vellum and the green CS.  The completed panel was adhered to a matching red cardbase.  To finish, I used “Rejoice” die from the set Exultations (51-060) cut from gold foil paper.  I die cut this twice and adhered together.  I placed the cut at the bottom right side of my panel.  I didn’t want to fuss with the dot from the “i” and decided to used a gold pearl pen instead.

Even with all that vellum warpness, I am very pleased how the card turned out.

Celebrate!

Hello!

I am sharing a Christmas card using one of the intricate dies from the latest Penny Black release.

I’ve been on a tear to make Christmas cards whenever I could sneak the time (or when I don’t feel like doing house chores).

For this, I decided to use Crystal Chain (51-087) as part of my focal point.  I used a card panel measuring 5.5×4.25″.  I die cut the intricate image to the left of the panel vertically.  I die cut the image again and adhered both cuts together to create thickness.  I then adhered panel with the negative cut to the card base.  I adhered my die cut into the negative space of the card.

To finish, I colored one of the cute images from Jolly Critters (30-264) with Prismacolor Pencils.  I also added a little sparkle with a glitter pen on the little ribbon attached to the cat’s candy cane. I fussy the image and adhered it to the bottom area of my card.  I then added a sentiment from Let It Snow (30-086).

That’s it.  I have more to share.  So, please, stay tuned!

Grateful

Hi there!

It’s raining here in Houston.  I’ve got a little time to post before dinner is ready to be made.  This week, the Penny Black DT is showcasing cards with a theme of giving thanks.

Here is my creation for this week.  I kept it very basic with a little bit of sparkle and embossing.

There are 3 leaves that I used that I cut from the Autumn Jewels (51-072) die set.  I heat embossed the maple leaf with gold EP  using the Filigree Foliage (40-358) stamp set and then used Distress Ink to color the rest of the leaf.  The 2 leaves in the back were colored with the same inks on the maple leaf and then stamped using the Filigree Foliage leaf images with gold ink.

Trick or Treat

Boo!!

Penny Black is getting ready for Halloween.  All week the Design Team is sharing cards on the blog with a Halloween theme.

And here is my creation!

I LOVE the little mummy from the Mo Manning clear set Glenda and Frankie (30-250)  Just SO cute!  I colored this little guy with Prismacolor Pencils.  I then fussy cut the image and set it aside.  I then used the haunted house die from the set Haunted Hollow (51-073).  I partially cut the die from black CS leaving the bottom part attached to the paper.  I then used a craft knife to cut a hill from the paper.  The sky background was created using hues of purple, blue, orange and yellow Distress Ink.  I then embossed the sentiment from the lear set Haunted Halloween (30-184).  I attached and trimmed the house and hill directly on the background.  The little mummy was attached with dimensional foam.

Have a great week!

Celebrations

Hello!

banner

Today, I am sharing you two projects that I created for Penny Black’s latest release Pocket Treasures.  All week, we’ve been sharing a scrapbook or a Project Life page as well as a card using the stamps and dies from this release.

My projects were showcased this past Tuesday, July 15th.

Let me show them to you now.

Tuesday was my son’s 10th birthday and I thought I’d start with the card I created to celebrate his day.

For this card, I thought a picture of him as an infant would be great to mark how much he has grown.  Time flies, doesn’t it?  I thought I’d use bright colors for the card to stand out as well as sparkly alpha letters.

For directions on how I made this card, click here.  Also, PB listed the wrong stamp set (completely my fault as I gave them the wrong info  And I just only noticed today!)  I used Let’s Chat (30-244), not Life’s Journals for this card.

My second project is a scrapbook page I created to commemorate my grandmother’s 100th birthday party.  To be honest, I don’t scrapbook.  I find making cards much easier and less time consuming.  In any case, I had a lot of fun thinking through the layout and creating the page.

This is one of my favorite pictures I took during my grandmother’s birthday party.  In this picture, my mother is helping my grandmother dance to “Pearly Shells”.  They both are clearly enjoying this moment.  It was a joyous day.

And this year, my family celebrated again for her 101st birthday!  Woohoo!

I hope you enjoyed the rest of the team’s projects.  They’re all gorgeous!  You can check them all on the Penny Black blog.

Until next time.

Chevron Birthday

Hello!

A few weeks ago, I made a “quick” birthday card for my nephew.  I really couldn’t put much thought into it because I had to mail it right away.

untitled-2525

SUPPLIES Stamps Chevron background (HA); Anything Can Happen (HA) Dies Birthday Trio (PTI) Inks Distress Paint (Ranger) Other Gesso (Golden); Versamark (Tsukineko); Queens Gold EP (Ranger); Enamel Dots; Vellum Paper; Glossy Accents (Ranger); Wink of Stella (Zig)

I tried to keep it simple and I wanted to use stamps and dies that are begging to be used.  I thought adding some paint would keep it technically interesting.  I first prepped a piece of Bristol paper with gesso.  I then added different hues of blue Distress Paint on the Hero Arts background stamp, Chevron.  I wanted an ombre look so I went from dark to light in the order of the paints.    Once colored, I heavily misted the stamp with water and then stamped the image on my paper.

While that dried, I die cut one of the dies from PTI’s Birthday Trio multiple times.  I glued them together to create a more 3 dimensional die cut.  The top layer was brushed with a Wink of Stella Pen and then covered with Glossy Accents.

I then assembled the card when all the items were dry.  On a strip of vellum, I embossed with gold EP the word “happy” from the HA Anything Can Happen clear set.  I added my die cut and finished the stamp with enamel dots.

Until next time!

With Love

Hello!

I had been busy all last week creating a wedding photo book for my son’s math & social studies teacher who is getting married this week.  I took photos of all the children and included in the books well-wishes, drawings and sound marriage advice from.  We presented it to her and I created a gift card for the present.

Using white CS, I die cut the larger die from the Avery Elle die set Pinked Die.  On the bottome of this card panel, I stamped the tulip image from the clear set Blooming Garden (30-155).

I was inspired by this card from Julie Ebersole and decided to do something similar.  I die cut the worths “With Love” from the Mama Elephant alpha die set In Line Letter.  I stamped a little dragonfly, from the clear set Salutations (30-014), matching the colors of the tulips on every other letter to have the letters stand out more.  Once I did that, I carefully (and I had to do this a few times to get it right) adhered it to the top portion of the card panel.  I then cut another card panel which I trimmed with pinking sheers.  The panels were attached and then I added ribbon.   I also added a sentiment to the back of the panel from the ME clear set So Breezy.

Since I wanted to attach it to the wrapped present, I thought I’d make a matching envelope using the Envelope Punch Board.  I bought it several months ago and this was the first time using it.  And I LOVE it!  It took me 2 tries but I was so happy after the second try!  I added the tulips.  I used Kate’s Alphabet (30-168) to address the envelope.

By the way, she ABSOLUTELY loved the book.  The students surprised her with it during recess.  It was a joy to see them screaming “surprise” to her.

Take care!
